I think he likely would not have pardoned him without the clear signal from the orange fascist that Hunter Biden and the Biden family would never be safe from constant persecution. He would continue to be a whipping boy for the right and Kash Patel as Trump's henchman would be happy to comply. Hunter risked descending back into drug use and depression, a likelihood that Biden couldn't let happen.
Omg my heart is broken. I cannot bear the way the legacy, now corporate media has treated Joe. Always a man of integrity, with faults as all of us. No one can say it like Rachel Maddow did last night. I’m looking forward to the media going the way of the dinosaur.
From above, sorry. I’m glad his father pardoned him, though my good Democratic friends and family are split on the matter. As the mother of two sons a bit younger than Beau and Hunter, I’d be split myself about what to do.
Thank you, Tim. I have absolutely no problem with President Biden pardoning his son Beau. Especially in light of the incoming president's history of abuse, grift, and self-enrichment and aggrandizement at any cost. And I am equally disdainful of those who curry his favor, thus proving themselves worthy of neither respect nor honor. Joe Biden has conducted himself admirably throughout a life that would have crippled most of us. He has lived as a man of principle. Who among us would not have extended legal grace to our own child?
This is truly beautiful and so encapsulates what family means to this sweet man. While I understand the complexity and why he is being criticized, I have no doubt he did what he needed to do. He knows what darkness lies ahead and in the end our family is what matters.
Sort of a different perspective on the pardon. So many people in my family are angry with him for this. But I completely get it. Beau is the only one left. Of course he has to do right by him. ❤️
Hunter Biden is a lost soul. Probably from that day in 1982. I wonder if he and Beau received help from a psychologist or another trained professional.
Biden should have never promised that he would not pardon Hunter. Hunter needs to suffer the consequences of his actions. I suspect that Hunter will be in trouble again before too long, although I hope not.
Biden's pardon of his son was very understandable. But it was also very wrong. You cannot, as president, make promises you don't keep. You should not, as president, swear to uphold the rule of law and then excuse breaking it. Trump and his toadies will now use this as an excuse for hundreds of pardons for Jan 6 rioters - and likely for himself.
Further, the bottom line is that Hunter broke the law. He had every advantage yet choose to do drugs and avoid taxes. He was convicted. He needs to pay the price just as the rest of us would.
I wonder if Biden can return the lives of the service members who were killed or wounded under his orders. They made a choice as well, to serve their country. They and their families paid a very heavy price, but I guess daddy can't bail them out.
Principles don't mean anything if your dont stick to them when things get tough. Joe turns out to be one more self serving hypocrite.
Biden is not a saint, only empathetic and compassionate. His decision was clearly in response to Kash Patel who is threatening to re-open investigations closed by Comer for lack of evidence. I am reminded of MTG saying that they would “torture” Joe by harassing Hunter. Why should he throw his son to the MAGA wolves for his VICTIMLESS CRIMES? Come Inauguration Day you will have plenty of real issues to worry about. Just read project 2025 (have you done that?) the plan that Trump lied about disavowing ( “I have no knowledge of it”).
This is a technical foul committed by #46 because he made a point of running as the ethical alternative to Trump and now he's gone back on a promise. (Shocker!) But at the end of the day no parent could have watched their son sincerely trying to pay their debt to society and get and stay sober, while being harried by half the country, and THEN let #47 and his minions sic the dogs of Hell on him.
I like to think that Joe is at peace with the choice he made.
Based on his actions during his first presidency, 47 will do whatever the fuck he wants. Fascism 101. As far as your observation that Joe is not perfect, let he who is "without sin" throw the first stone.

Thanks for this. This man has suffered enough loss. Why should he hand his only remaining son over to the MAGA wolves.
Joe did the right thing!

Beautifully written.

Humbly , If I may…It’s actually Hunter that is his only son left💞
As it should be. Always.

Just beautiful.
