Thank you for this article. It is indeed sad that the US through the presidents shortsightedness ( being kind here) will not be seen as an ally but a foe. We are losing allies and making enemies. Sad and equally disturbing. Thank you again.

that orange guy who said no wars during his presidency is igniting political fires all over globe, razing Gaza of debris and of 2 million inhabitants & simultaneously canceling all environmental protection initiatives internationally (as well of course, as domestically)

Witnessing our once good kind nation slip into fascism and greed is like seeing the lights turned off so the oligarchs can have a feeding frenzy!

The goodness of America has a long and deep tradition. We have made tragic mistakes in wars in the end of the last century. Our goodness was remembered fondly by starving people as spam rice and flour. Heck we fed Russians from starving by opening our bread basket. This can be undone swiftly by those playing with matches and gasoline.

Where are you, George? Make your father proud! He was willing to die for his country. Stand up! One day, he will ask you, « What did you do to save America? »

When “W” was President, I asked “Who would have ever believed we’d miss Richard Nixon.” When Trump was elected I asked “WHO would have ever believed we’d miss George W. Bush?”

Another well researched piece on what America has meant across parties and time, until this recent vote. It is astounding the speed at which "short term gain" has been the blind default choice in the Trump Administration, desiccating America's strength and ability to protect both our citizens at home (see newest cuts in Medicaid and the FAA), as well as our influence in foreign nations (see Radio Free Europe or USAID's international programs which also stabilize farm families income in the US, and your above article). All these "cuts" are guaranteed to produce "long term pain" for our country and our influence in the world. But who cares about democratic values when you have a chance to rob the wealthiest nation in the world?
